Cowlitz County Veterans Stand Down. Providing a hand up, not a hand out to Veterans in need.
Veteran Stand Downs are typically one-to-three day events designed to provide and supplies and services to low income and homeless veterans. Stand Downs generally serve hot meals and snacks, supply clothing and cold weather items, and a provide a connection to resources. Onsite services usually include health and dental screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling, and mental health and substance abuse treatment.
The first Stand Down was organized in 1988 by a group of Vietnam Veterans in San Diego. Since then, Stand Downs have been used as an effective tool in reaching out to homeless Veterans and their families. The Cowlitz County Veterans Stand Down Committee has planned and carried out an annual Stand Down since 2008.
The Cowlitz County Veterans Stand Down Committee (CCVSDC) is a non-profit organization comprised entirely of volunteers. Members of the committee organize and carry out the annual Stand Down event by holding planning meetings and fundraisers throughout the year. Since 2008, the CCVSDC
